In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, many employees are required to work from home to curb the transmission of the virus. Working from home can be challenging to some as it is not easy to switch from a structured office environment to a home-based environment. Unfortunately, many employees have succumbed to presenteeism and its damaging effects on physical and mental well-being. Here are some tips that can help you to stay productive when working from home!
1. Build a workspace
It is important to have a dedicated space for workspace because it can influence productivity. If you can, avoid working in your bedroom or working on the couch because it takes a huge toll on your productivity. Set yourself up with a comfortable chair, a spacious desk, good Wi-Fi, and related office supplies. You can also decorate your workspace with motivational quotes to inspire you. It is best advisable for you to work from a consistent workspace to tell your brain that “I am at work” and not “I am at home.”
2. Get dressed in office attire
It may sound unnecessary to dress up when you’re at home, but it can set the tone for your day. You don't have to be overdressed, just wear something casual and presentable to get the working mood. Avoid working without showering and brushing your teeth or wearing your pajamas because it will give a sense that you should be resting, not working. You can also take this chance to put a new outfit on a test drive!
3. Plan your schedule
Sometimes the workload can be overwhelming because there are so many things that need to be done in a day. If you don’t plan properly, it might influence your productivity and lose track. First and foremost, relax and take a deep breath. The most important thing is to have peace of mind so you can plan your day properly. Then, make a to-do list to list out all of your tasks, then prioritize it from the highest priority tasks to the least prioritized ones. You can also use tools such as Google Calendar to set schedules and reminders for the deadlines. This way, you can always stay focused and keep your work on track.
4. Take a break
Sitting on a chair for a long period of time can affect your body posture and productivity. Staring at the computer screen for an extended period of time can strain your eyes and impact your productivity. Give yourself a short break every few hours- get some fresh air, grab a snack, make a cup of coffee, play with your pets, do light exercise, or do any kind of activities that can distract you from work for a while. These activities can help you to improve your mental well-being and work performance.
